The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty
5.0
"'Nowonmai,' something answered him in pain and in a groaning whisper. 'Nowonmai. Nowonmai.' The cracking, breathy voice seemed to come from afar, from some dark, cloistered space at the edge of the worlds, beyond time, beyond hope, beyond even the comfort of resignation and despair."
Just a taste of Blatty's style, which is deeply evocative and haunting.
I really loved this. I was concerned in the beginning because it definitely is a slow burn, but it packs a punch. Found myself repeatedly on the edge of my seat. This has easily become one of my all-time favorite horror novels. I agree with those that say it's up there with Frankenstein and such. Wish it hadn't taken me so much time to read it.
Recommended to all fans of the movie and horror in general.
