Having read this book as part of a university assessment three years ago, The Natural Way of Things quickly became one of my favourite novels of all time. I think it does a fantastic job in portraying what it means to be a woman in Australia, especially one who finds herself unwillingly caught up in the scandals of men. The physical isolation of the story’s protagonists mirrors the emotional turmoils of being unwillingly silenced and forced against speaking out about cruel treatment.
