Strange Sally Diamond by Liz Nugent
3.0
A compelling page turner but there were some things that let it down for me.
Overall, I enjoyed the book, i was intrigued from the very first chapter and found my self speeding through the book to find out what was going to happen next.
This was absolutely a very sad and disturbing story with some extremely dark topics, but the ending felt rushed and not satisfying at all. I felt a bit “Was that it!” Which was disappointing.
I wouldn’t describe this as a thriller, it isn’t packed with suspense and twists. Reads more like a darkly themed litfic
I also found the writing style very basic. A tell-not-show style. I can understand this style could fit when writing from the POV of Sally with her mental condition, but the whole book was in this style, no matter the POV. I think this made it feel quite YA (in writing style, not content!).
Overall, I enjoyed the story, but it lost stars for the ending and the writing style.
