Stay Sexy & Don't Get Murdered: The Definitive How-To Guide
by Georgia Hardstark, Karen Kilgariff
I tried really hard to like it because I've always loved the podcast, but it was too scattered for me and I have to agree with people who say the humour didn't quite stick the landing. Maybe I should have known going in given the general lack of structure in the podcast episodes and the fact that I am increasingly reluctant to embark on a three hour journey through a conversation between friends. That can be fun if you're in the right mood, but I'm finding that I am very infrequently in that mood now?
And speaking of cults. The cult of self-help can be problematic, too. Particularly because it claims to give you life-changing advice but rarely goes beyond surface-level advice and into the practical, day-to-day, what the fuck do I actually do? Self-deprecating humour has the effect of obscuring actual vulnerability, too. Or rather, it markets vulnerability in a palatable way without getting too vulnerable. I don't know. I'm bitter and cranky I guess.
To be fair, there was some great advice. I just didn't enjoy the format.
