The Skin and Its Girl by Sarah Cypher
4.5
emotional hopeful inspiring sad medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character

Beautiful, somehow both simple and complicated.  At its heart about storytelling, in which truth and myth and lie mix together endlessly, so some things that feel at first like little accidents in writing are revealed to be intentional cracks in the façade, and facts that seem sturdy and true are brought into question.  A lovely story of love and connection and history and exile and truth and the difficulty of determining if it’s even possible to hold onto something as fragile and implausible as family.

Beautifully written exploration of family, storytelling, memory, and belonging.  It really touched me.
