***EDIT***
This book is fantastic! The South American mythology was super interesting to dive into, the characters were complex, the twists and turns kept you on your toes, and there was just enough of the hint of romance/pinning to keep it interesting. I cannot wait for the second book to come out!
*So when I first reviewed this book it was directly after finishing and I thought that the ending was definitely the best part so I was riding that high so to speak. Upon reflection and watching other reviews I have found that the beginning lagged so much that I understand why people dnf in the first half and I was not fully aware of South American folklore so I didn’t understand the demonization of native peoples in this book as well as the ableist implications of the character with a heart transplant. Wish this book would’ve been executed better because I absolutely love the premise but the follow through was disappointing.
