The novel format gives the robot stories time to develop the characters a bit more than the anthology format of the first two books, which makes this more enjoyable. A bit of an annoying 'jumping to conclusions' approach to crime solving, with the robot being made almost redundant because he cannot give testimony, but some nice twists here and there. The cities do seem pretty miserable, but give a view of how we end up with whole city planets by the time of the galactic empire.
