Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo

dark slow-paced

Before I get into my thoughts on this book I want to thank Luna for buddy reading this one with me. I had so much fun reading and discussing this book with you and I can't wait for us to buddy read more books in the future.

I know I read the synopsis for this book when I first heard of it but a lot of time went by before I actually ended up reading it so I went into this book blind. I had no clue what I was in for. I admit this book was a little slow paced. I much prefer books that move at a faster pace however that being said this book completely sucked me in. I swear like 8 chapters in and I was already telling Luna I absolutely had to have the second book. I hadn't even finished this book yet and I knew I needed to read the second book. To me that speaks volumes.

In the beginning I didn't really know what was going on but I knew I needed to find out. I kept reading and the more I read the more I got sucked in. This book is intense. It's atmospheric and gruesome but in the best way. There were definitely some scenes that I could have done without but I totally got why they were included. They weren't just included for the shock value at least they didn't come across that way to me. Before you read this book I would highly recommend looking into trigger warnings because there are a lot of triggering subjects in this book.

It ends on a cliffhanger but in this instance I liked it because the events of the first book were pretty well wrapped up and the cliffhanger leads us into the second book which I now own and will be reading in February. I don't really know what else to say about this book. It literally blew me away and I won't be surprised if it ends up on my favorites of the year list.
