The Mrs Bird of the first book is no longer editor of Woman's Friend magazine and Emmy has more freedom to answer a greater range of problem page letters.
When the ministry asks all women's magazines to get involved in the recruitment of women to war work, Emmy finds herself torn between helping the women to get better working conditions (especially free child care) and toeing the ministry line!
A really enjoyable read with a fascinating storyline and insight into life as a woman during the war.
