Mended with Gold by Lee Welch

The story centered on Alex, a photographer who decided to buy a ramshackle house on the beach in New Zealand to escape from a traumatic event in the past. The story is a slow, internal realization of himself while he deals with his pain and his curiosity of Joe, a comic book artist, who he first sees sleeping on a couch in the sunroom of the house he ends up buying.
As Alex tries to get to know Joe, who is stand-offish, they realize that each has a past they have to work through and maybe they are perfect for one another.
It's a short read with a lot of internal dialogue, but in the end, you feel the connection between the two men and hope that in the future, they can make it together.
