Prisoner of My Desire
by Johanna Lindsey
This book was SO cuckoo bananas like ... maybe the craziest romance I've ever read. It seems like in medieval they can pretty much do anything and uh, Johanna Lindsey decided to run with that in this book. If you are at all upset about dubious consent, I alert you to stay away from this book or proceed with caution and an open mind. I ended up really loving this book understanding that a) it's fiction, b) they both got their comeuppance (pardon the pun) in the end.
Basically, the plot is that
I am not a huge J. Lindsey fan, having only read a few so far. The writing feels kinda clunky and there is SO much backstory and sidestory and ugh, it just feels like slogging through heavy wet sand a lot of times, but the plots are totally bananas and that in itself keeps me turning the pages, like how in the hell is she gonna get us out of THIS jam?
All in all I had a great time reading this (skimming the backstory and all the various warring strategy sections that were total snoozefests for me) and will definitely read more J. Lindsey if it's medieval because I think she has a great strength in this wild west atmosphere.

Spoiler
Rowena gets wed to an old geezer for feudal reasons by her wicked and horny for her stepbrother, said old geezer keels over on their wedding night without deflowering her, stepbrother decides to kidnap a blonde serf to impregnate her, accidentally kidnaps his mortal enemy (and a knight) instead and CHAINS HIM TO A BED where Rowena proceeds to rape him for 3 days. She is a virgin and doesn't really understand how anything works so it's a comedy of errors at first. He is going to be killed once his usefulness is at an end, but she takes pity on him and finds a way for him to escape. He promptly returns with his men, recaptures and kidnaps her and burns the castle to the ground. Then he chains HER up for 3 days and rapes her (after some dungeon time and basically being a jerk) and then makes her a servant in his castle. There is a whole bunch of not understanding who anyone is all throughout the book that is really fun and delicious when it's "discover who they really are" time and of course they fall in love and have hot amazing sex all through the book, while trying not to having feelings for each other. Oh yeah and she's getting more pregnant with his baby every day.I am not a huge J. Lindsey fan, having only read a few so far.
