Although sometimes the prose was sometimes hard to understand and the changes in POV sometimes disorienting, all characteristics that say more about me than the story itself, this book is incredibly well-done. It is beautiful and disgusting and heartbreaking and hopeful and somber and sweet all in one
I think what I adore most about this book is how it explores suffering, tragedy, brutality in a way that is not perverse. So often you'll see books that showcase the darkest parts of humanity and it's done in a way that seemingly glorifies or delights in it just for the sake of its taboo. Beloved tells its story not only in a beautiful, poetic way, but also in a respectful and tactful manner. We don't need every excruciating detail to feel the pain of this story.
The characters also feel incredibly real, even the ones we only hear of in passing. This story feels lived in, suffered and loved.
Overall, a great read, and very important as well.
