solshines68 's review for:
Fifty Shades Freed
by E.L. James
This is my review for the whole series because I was sucked in and read them all back to back. I had a hard time putting them down.
It's pure fantasy and written from the perspective of a 22 year old girl. Perhaps it's an indulgent guilty pleasure to relive being young and confused and inexperienced with some hot sex thrown in. If one reads from the perspective of an older, wiser adult then, yes, it would be an exasperating read. These books are certainly not Anais Nin but they aren't supposed to be. There will be no essays written or long, classroom discussions about the merits of Solution Focused Brief Therapy, the communication skills (or lack thereof) between Ana and Christian and the inner goddess versus the inner subconscious.
I was intrigued by the emotional scars and effects of having a Mrs. Robinson in Christian's life that made him the way he was. I related to Ana's young insecurities and ambitions. I giggled at the e-mail exchanges and Ana's inner goddess (“My inner goddess sits in the lotus position looking serene except for the sly, self-congratulatory smile on her face.”). I enjoyed looking up different references in the book and listening to some new music, to boot.
My subconscious tells me I should be ashamed for liking these so much but holy hell was it erotic and fun and had me cringing, giggling and fully engrossed.
