Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling

5.0

The first in what can only be described as the biggest child-friendly literary phenomenon in recent times (arguably ever) doesn't disappoint. The sheer amount of creativity and imagination that Rowling crams in between the covers of this book is tremendous. While it may not be the most eloquently written and may have more than its fair share of plot holes especially throughout the series, it reads well enough for children and adults alike. It may not be the most original premise (a male-protagonist good vs evil Bildungsroman about magic), yet Rowling makes the age-old story sparkle with the magic of a well-executed spell and ensures that almost every child (and adult) who reads these books will dream they go to Hogwarts.
