Two Women in Rome
by Elizabeth Buchan
This was a time slip novel set in the 70’s and presentish day. I loved the atmosphere of the story and both time frames were equally well written. I loved Nina’s story in the 70’s that invoked the troubles and feelings of the time and lotties story coming to Rome now with new things to learn and how her life wasn’t in a way that much different to Nina’s. You felt the tensions, grief, loss and happiness in this book. How Nina wants to find out the lives of the dead that she looks after in the archives was compelling and the sights and sounds of Rome came to life. Even the smaller characters were well fleshed out and you never think that they are not needed to the story. All in all an enjoyable read, i couldn’t put it down and look forward to more by this author and I’m glad she has such a back catalogue i can catch up with.
