The Lost World: The Junior Novelization by Gail Herman

1.0

WOW. No! Guys, save yourselves and leave The Lost World lost. It was a crappy, sloppy reiteration of Jurassic Park. Crichton wrote this to pacify publishers and so Hollywood could make another movie.

Let's see... Where to begin? The characters were weak and undeveloped. They were all genius types who just spouted science-y things and each conversation ended with "I've figured it all out! ..." Then the character is cut off or distracted and we never figure out what they figured out. Every single character could've been devoured by dinosaurs and it would've improved the novel by 100000%.
AND in no uncertain terms did it state that Ian Malcolm DIED at the end of Jurassic Park. Then he is miraculously not dead? Then somehow he is talked into going back to a dinosaur infested island? He's a mathematician! Why is he studying dinosaurs? He wasn't the same character that he was in the first book. But I guess that's what happens when you are killed and then resurrected without an explanation.

Another thing that drove me bonkers was the contradictions between Jurassic Park and The Lost World. They would state something in Jurassic Park and then contradict the statement in The Lost World.

It was slow to get going. The first 250 pages were just scientific speculations about the dinosaurs that never had any resolution. So BORING! Then the rest were filled with dinosaur attacks that were blatantly hokey. There was nothing thrilling about this thriller.
