“But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs."

I don’t think I was in the right headspace for the majority of the time I spent with this tome. There were moments that really struck me—like the quote above or George Eliot’s sense of humor and sarcasm—but there were also long swathes of text that I found quite tedious.

Overall I think I’ve enjoyed reading about George Eliot more than I’ve enjoyed reading George Eliot. We’ll see if that changes in the future.
