I don’t think I was in the right headspace for the majority of the time I spent with this tome. There were moments that really struck me—like the quote above or George Eliot’s sense of humor and sarcasm—but there were also long swathes of text that I found quite tedious.
Overall I think I’ve enjoyed reading about George Eliot more than I’ve enjoyed reading George Eliot. We’ll see if that changes in the future.
