Horrorstör by Grady Hendrix

3.0

I read this in one sitting, in the span of 3-ish hours. it was...OK? Not bad, but it didn't knock my socks off. I'll qualify that by saying that sometimes I struggle with paranormal/supernatural topics because sometimes I have a hard time suspending belief, but it really boils down to how it's written.

Mild spoilers for House Across the Lake ahead...

SpoilerExample, House Across the Lake had a supernatural element but it was presented in such a dark/serious way that you could buy it as an explanation for what happened. And the way it was explained HOW it came to be that way (folklore) made sense.

Horrorstör was....a lot. Like, all the major paranormal tropes that I can think of were seemingly crammed into this book. The explanation/cause for what happened made sense, but they threw everything and the kitchen sink at the characters and it got a little overwhelming (not like...OMG make it stop it's scary, but like...come on, give these people a break).

I didn't hate it. I didn't love it.

Oddly enough, this is the first book in this genre that seemingly influenced my dreams...sorry, Chris, if I woke you up with my thrashing and mumbling about my haunted iced tea!
