Largely an introspective book, with a slow-burn mystery that isn't wrapped up neatly–rather, it's left open to interpretation. The calm introspective tone throughout most of the novel is juxtaposed with a handful of blazingly tense, violent, and–in my opinion–unnecessarily disturbing scenes of animal cruelty, and sexual violence/incest. Good writing, but would not recommend based on the disturbing scenes the inconclusive nature of the narrative that I found unsatisfying.
Graphic: Animal cruelty, Animal death, Incest, Rape, Sexual violence
