If you appreciate a blend of dark, poignant, and unflinchingly honest storytelling, then this book is for you. The scenarios and emotions that Esther, the protagonist, experience are strikingly real, making the plot of The Bell Jar particularly appealing. Esther is candid about her indecisiveness and insecurities. She portrays a sense of alienation most authentic to her character. The Bell Jar explores societal pressures and expectations that have the potential to heavily impact one's concept of identity in conjunction to mental illness. Easy to digest, and a must-read.
