Silent Knight by Beth Bolden

4.0

Ok, this was weird. I mean, not bad weird but... weird. It's still a Beth Bolden's book, and although Jem is a football player and one of the MCs (he is from the Charleston Series) it was weird (sorry, yes I know, that word again. I just can't help it!) that the story was not focused on football or a kitchen or a food truck!

But that's not a complaint. As I said, it's still a book by this author, and perhaps she has a writing style that for others may be a little repetitive, but for me, it's simply perfect. It's like emphasizing the facts of the story that really matter, and that as it progresses, one can notice how they change.

Jem and Murphy were best friends in their childhood, but in order to protect himself, and as Jem became more and more popular and knowing that he would eventually leave town, Murphy began to drift away. Now, several years later and after an injury that permanently took him away from football, Jem is back, albeit temporarily.

At first Jem does not recognize Murphy and hits on him, leaving Murph confused. Yes, he was elated that Jem found him attractive, but at the same time terrified of feeling again everything he felt for Jem years ago. After all, Jem had no plans to stay, and where would that leave Murphy? Heartbroken again. Was it worth risking the life he had built for himself for a few nights in the company of the one man no other could outshine?

For Jem, discovering what Murph felt for him before was a shock, he had never understood why Murph had walked away, and he had hidden well the pain that had caused him, although at the time, Jem had not realized it that he felt the same, but he began to wonder if the lack of interest in having a relationship with another person during the years he was away had something to do with the boy he had left behind when he fled small-town life to achieving what he believed was his biggest dream.

Now he has to decide whether to flee again from that town that before seemed too simple, too small, too intrusive, but that now began to reveal its charms to him in the form of a man who could give him everything he felt he was missing.

A sweet story to enjoy during this time of the year, with steamy and romanctic moments, about two men that have to learn how to leave their fears behind in orden to reach their happiness.

And now, to wait the next about the Charleston boys!

I was given an advanced copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
