Many conflicting feelings on this one. I'm glad I read it, as I learned so much about cultures I was mostly unfamiliar with. It touches on so many relevant and controversial issues. The writing is quite beautiful and the characters endearing. Tilo is by far the character I connect with the most. On the downside, the organization of the story is so confusing. It made my head spin for most of the reading, except for some of Tilo's sections that felt quite grounded. Perhaps that was the goal, to keep the reader off kilter in a world that is so war torn. There are also passages that felt way too long (like letters that go on for 10 pages), so at times I skimmed a bit to keep my interest. Overall, I think this is a very valuable read, but it was a bit of a challenge to get through.
