Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser
2.0

I irst read about this book in another book by the pollster and columnist Michael Barone. It's an interesting story from a turn-of-the-20th-century point of view about an innocent girl who leaves her home in rural Wisconsin to make her way in Chicago. Alas, young Carrie makes a cavalcade of unfortunate decisions that ultimately help her find theatrical success but pretty much muck up every other part of her life. Her morality--her cumpass of right and wrong--all become either badly damaged or destroyed before this book ends.
