In perfect honesty, I don't think I can tell you how I feel about this book at all.

This is one of those things that's going to require more time for me to sit with it, and absolutely I'll need to re-read it in the future as well. There are plenty of elements to this that aged somewhat poorly that I cannot ignore, and I personally feel like this is one of the slowest-moving books I've ever read in my entire life.  As such, it's difficult to want to keep returning to finish the book in the first place.  Perhaps this will be suited to a future read, where maybe I can pour all my focus into just this book.

I think this also is starting to cement for me a concern I've had for a while now, where among the well-known giants of horror authors, I have the inverse problem with Clive Barker's work to what I do with Stephen King. I personally feel like Barker's greatest strengths lie within his short stories where his novels tend to be a bit too drawn-out and could honestly have been trimmed down with little problem.   That being said, I do still want to go on record as saying Barker's writing remains beautiful in its own dark way; I've called it "decadent macabre" before, and that's what I'm sticking with.
