This is likely a good starter book for sci-fi. Unfortunately it hasn’t aged as well as others from its time. I had a little giggle when Clarke said the earth was going to run out of food because ~gasp~ there were six BILLION people on the planet!
Anyway, the pedal only hits the floor at the end. I felt like I was just coasting for most of the novel—just like the discovery, but that was going at speeds of km/s, not a few pages before predictable events ended another short chapter.
I am glad I knocked this off of the Sci-Fi canon list, but wouldn’t read it again. I’m not sure I’ll finish the series either.
