Rope the Moon by Ava Hunter
3.0
I had been originally highly anticipating "Rope The Moon" as I LOVED the first book so dearly. And maybe I went into this book with too high of expectation I think lol because I almost DNF this book. Thankfully it did improve in the later half of the story. But I still didn't truly love this one like I was hoping for. While I didn't mind the set up of this, I found it different to have a heroine on the run, pregnant with another man's baby. There were a few issues though that I had with the writing itself. The first is being that the heroine expected the hero to fight for her, but wasn't willing to be honest with him or not fight for him either? Then we have the toxic character that is Fallon. Seriously I wasn't a huge fan of her in book one, but in this book we really see how toxic and unlikeable of a character she is. The way in which she treats her sister was emotionally abusive. And then how the men get treated in this book was beyond horrid. I am not sure if this was intentional by the author or not but it felt a bit cringe. The spice was too focused in this book. I probably didn't notice it in the first book because the circumstances were that there couldn't be many sex scenes. But man it was overkill in this book and it made the actual romance feel weak. The writing also wasn't that engaging. The first book was a page turner and kept me up all night, and I could barely have any interest. Now granted, some of this might be some of the characters just turning me off.
While there was so swoony moments in the end here, and I really enjoyed the danger plot that is implemented here, I also liked the sweet endings that we saw. But I will be honest once we get to Fallon's book not sure I will read it. We shall see how book three does for me, but I am taking a couple weeks off from this author before I pick up Burn the Wild.
