Marrying the Ketchups
by Jennifer Close
I put this on my TBD list because the description checked a lot of boxes: family drama set at a family-owned restaurant near Chicago; plusthe family are also huge Cubs fans who lost their mind when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016 and then lost them for completely different reasons when Trump was elected President a few weeks later.
I should have loved this. The author's roughly my age, but it kind of felt like she was writing for an older audience, or a different audience. I'm not sure. I suspect there's an audience for this book, because there's nothing wrong with the writing, but that audience is not me. I gave up at 67 pages in and tried to skim the rest, but I found myself so uninterested in the characters that I even got bored doing that. It's the most disappointing "meh" reading experience of the year.
