No Priest but Love: The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister 1824-1826 by Helena Whitbread, Anne Lister

emotional informative medium-paced

4.0

I loved this second volume of Anne Lister's selected diaries. Yet again, it shows her complex relationships with society, women, her sexuality, and religion. I wish it hadn't been as heavy on the commentary by the editor and showed the point with diary excerpts instead of Whitbread's comments. It was still a fine volume and I really hope that a third will come out that documents Anne's courtship of Ann Walker and the last years of her life.
