I really liked how this book developed the characters together and individually because it brought the book together. It was a strong read and learning more and more about Carmen and Dani individually helped even more when you learned about them together. Together they opened up each other and found themselves within what they thought each other was. In Dani’s words “Dani's father always told her that secrets made her strong. Her maestras had told her restraint made her strong. But Dani knew now that to crack open what you thought you knew, to allow it to scar with truth, that was what made you truly strong.” Carmen and Dani saw different versions of each other and cracked each other open because of how close they got to each other. I loved this book and how we got to learn more about them every single chapter.
