Rhen deserved so much more than to be removed from the throne by Gray and Gray being like "I know I took everything from you, but we're still brothers, right? You can be my servant if you'd like".
I couldn't care less about Shyl Shallow, Grey, and Lia Mara. Grey is not fit to be a king and he doesn't care about the people of Emberfall at all, while Rhen spent his whole life suffering and sacrificing himself for his kingdom.
Every time Grey and Lia Mara talked or did ~whatever~, I wanted to close the book, bc if I was Lia Mara I would have gotten the ick of the century from Grey.
