This Earth of Mankind
by Pramoedya Ananta Toer
I don't think I've read this fast in my life.
Although different from books I usually read, I liked the change in my track record.
Read for a class on memory in literature studies, it was my first time reading a book by an Indonesian author. Toers writing is magnificent, you can tell his voice was made for storytelling. There were times the story got more poetic, then other times it would be more realistic. I really felt like Minke--who is our main character-- had a way of speech that allowed the reader to seamlessly converse along with him. Interesting characters for sure, a very heartfelt book which at times also made me laugh.
