gotta be honest, i wasn't really itching to read this book because I thought 'The Fine Print' was just okay. no hate to Rowan and Zahra, obviously, i just found that some parts dragged on longer than necessary. but i'm so glad i have this one a chance bc IT WAS SO GOOD. the only thing that i didn't like was the female narrator of the audiobook. her voice made me wanna throw something through a window at times. I liked Declan's POV more because I actually preferred the male narrators Iris voice than the females. other than that, LOVED IT.
man oh man do i love a marriage of convenience trope. especially when it has a morally grey mmc who insists on calling the fmc "my wife" when he didn't even want the marriage in the first place. but let's be honest, Declan was in love with Iris the whole time. he knew about her dyslexia and made the workplace easier for her without her even knowing. HE MADE THE ENTIRE OFFICE SWITCH THE FONT THEY USE IN EMAILS TO MAKE IT EASIER FOR HER TO READ!! and then after their first big fight, HE GETS HER A DOG, A MINIVAN, AND A HOUSE WITH A GREEN HOUSE IN THE BACKYARD. THEN HE PROCEEDS TO PROPOSE TO HER JUST THE WAY HE DESCRIBED WHEN THEY FIRST AGREED TO GET FAKE MARRIED. SORRY FOR THE ALL CAPS BUT IM SCREAMING. anyway...
something that i really liked about this book is that it showed a female main character who's go-to reaction is to run when things get hard. we see a lot of male characters (and men irl) do that but females have that instinct too and it's important to show that (not at all because i relate in anyway to avoiding relationships bc they're hard sometimes what no not me never).
this book has everything:
-fake marriage
-angst
-HOT SEX
-main characters with daddy issues
-a safari honeymoon
-a crazy plant mom
-did i mention hot sex?
