Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid

3.0

The core of this book is solid. The main plot and the development of the main characters are very good. What's not so good is the writing around this, especially in the first half of the book. Almost every moment of Emira with her friends, at some bar, talking about sex or jobs or clothes, gave me the sense that the author was writing that part reluctantly, as a chore. You can't skim those parts too quickly, or you'll miss important stuff.

In the last third of the book, there is almost none of the weak stuff. This part is worth four stars; if you make it to where the action heats up, you'll be fine.
