Read for ATS1903 Introducing Literature: Ways of Readnig
You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope.
In an absolutely shocking turn of events I absolutely ADORED this book. I reread this (although considering I wasn't paying any attention when I read it the first time a few years ago, it doesn't at all feel like a reread) for my Ways of Reading class for uni.
I really enjoyed all the characters and dynamics, the complexities of the relationships (especially between Wentworth and Anne, so many layers of past tension and experience!) were just delightful and so much was happening, especially in the second volume which moves at breakneck speed.
I never really thought that it would happen, since I've been watching the BBC Pride and Prejudice since I was a child and it's such a core piece of media for me, but I think I enjoyed this far more than Pride and Prejudice. I certainly found it to be more engaging and fun to read. Also Wentworth is just an incredible love interest - the conversations and interactions he and Anne were having in the second volume had me laughing and gasping in shock at the boldness.
All in all, a very successful read and I cannot wait to watch the 1995 adaptation (or any adaptation that isn't in recent Netflix one) to cement this in my mind.
