This is the first book I’ve ever read (maybe ever) that made me feel seen. I am also black and have fibromyalgia and some relationship trauma and LISTS...... I too suffer from “Maybe I don’t deserve to be happily and unconditionally loved by someone” syndrome. But this book.. THIS BOOK.. made me feel worthy. I have NEVER felt so seen and related to a character so much in my life. The way Chloe’s fibro presents itself is so eerily close to my own experience and it was so shocking but amazing to see that she too has worked as best as she could to find healthy ways to cope and while sometimes it’s just not easy, she’ll try her damndest the next day. I think the real kicker with my Chloe likeness was her reaction to people wanting to do things for her when she was in a lot of pain. She just says no and tries to fight it and do it herself. I was like...ME?? I love Chloe Brown so much and I’m saying this to her as much as myself, we are worthy of love not everyone will leave us. I know my Red will come into my life like a whirlwind when I least expect it and it’ll be beautiful and complicated and amazing and all around worth it.
