Fragile Sanctuary by Catherine Cowles

5.0

I honestly don't know how she does it, but Catherine Cowles blows me away every time. It's difficult to say, because I truly have loved everything I've read from her, but I think this one might be her best yet. There really wasn't a single thing about this book that I didn't love.

If you take nothing else from this review, let this be the thing you remember: this book was absolute perfection, and you need to read it so you can experience it's amazingness.

- Anson: The definition of a grumpy/broken hero. His past is so complicated and heart wrenching that it is completely understandable why he is the way he is. I loved the friendship he had with Shep and I love that even at his most closed off, he always had Shep, but getting to see Anson slowly open up to Rhodes? Absolutely beautiful. The way he cared for her and protected her, while also still allowing her to have her freedom? I don't know what else to call it other than perfect.

- Rhodes: I mean, come on! I don't know how you don't fall in love with her. She too has a very difficult past, and even with that past, she is always looking for the bright spot in life. I loved how dedicated she was to her family and friends, and I loved how she supported Anson, even when he was suck a jerk to her. I loved her strength and I loved her vulnerability. She was the perfect female lead for this book.

- Their relationship: I loved how the relationship between the two of them developed. The way they both cared for and supported each other was everything you want to see in a relationship. I don't want to give anything away, so that is all I will say on this part, but just know, they were the perfect match for each other.

- The Colsons: This family is just amazing. If you don't come out of this book loving each and everyone of them, than you read a completely different book than me. There is not one Colson I didn't love and I am so excited to see them in the future books. Don't even get me started on Lolli. She was a hoot!

- The mystery: I swore up and down that I knew what was going to happen by about 50% of the way through the book, and I was completely wrong. Which isn't a surprise, Catherine as stumped me pretty good in her last few books. Though I know when I do a reread of this book (because I 100% will) I'll pick up on those little clues she left us.

- The spice: The spice was spicing in this book. Now don't get me wrong, I have always enjoyed the spice in Catherine's books, but this one was on another level and I was here for it! It was the perfect blend of sweet and spicy, with all the feeling and need I love to see.

There is so much more I could say about this book, but I don't want to spoil anything, so I'm going to leave it here, but in case you didn't get it, I loved this book and I can't wait for the next one.
