Want to start this off by saying this is the first book I’ve read by this author so I hadn’t read the first series before picking this up. It was not hard to understand the world even though this is my first experience with it. The first series was explained well enough in snipets while reading this one.
Anna is the main character in this supernatural mystery reverse harem. She finds herself working with an elite group of incredibly handsome supernatural men. They must work together to find her killer/sire, Ryan. She’s out for revenge and they want to finish a mission that others have failed to do before them. However, no one would have guessed this group of men would be her fated mates. Can they find a man who seemingly disappeared off the face of the earth? Anna sure hopes so, if only to make him feel all the pain he’s caused her.
As characters go, they weren’t the worst. I found myself disagreeing with Anna on her decisions at times, but nothing too drastic. Mostly the fact that she was forgetting about Ryan in the beginning of the story but then she suddenly became hellbent on getting revenge on him? The male love interests kept to their distinct personalities, which I enjoyed. Some RH stories tend to write a lot of the male internal dialogues the same, even though they are supposed to have very different personality traits.
The world explained in this book is the same as most worlds where they incorporate many different supernatural beings. There is a higher council, which I hope they explore more in the next book (I do realize it may have been explained in the first series but as a separate series in the same universe, based on different characters it should be explained well in both. This was people who didn’t read the first, like me, still understand everything).
The pacing was fine in the beginning but I did notice a rush towards the end. I’ve never been a fan of many day skips in between chapters. Other things could be hashed out during those times that were skipped. It makes it feel rushed as well when things like that are mentioned. Such as, more romance building between the characters. Not a rushed sex scene after a two day skip, then back to their mystery.
Overall, I think I will continue the series. It was a quick and easy read and I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I was. The mystery sub-plot is very interesting and I am curious where it will end up. This book does also end on a cliffhanger, warning if you’re not into that type of thing.
