A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas

I have a lot to say about this book and not a lot of it is good.
This is a 750 page book, yet absolutely nothing happened until the last 150 pages. Oh excuse me, not nothing, just mind-numbing smut that was extremely unnecessary. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good sex scene.... but I don’t love a books whose plot is overshadowed by the sex. If I wanted that, I’d read an erotic novel, which is basically all this was. There was soooooo much potential in this book: lanthys and the other death gods, nestas power, the library, Mor in vallahan, the war!?!???? Yet all of those things were just barely touched on and instead the big fight ended up just being the blood rite that was basically pointless for the girls to take and nesta giving up powers she never really used in the first place.
And along the lines of nestas power, we have been told time and time again that she is “death incarnate”, “she has the cauldrons power itself” ok. Well where is it? And why did she have to use the dread trove at all when she has all that power? It really makes no sense.
Honestly this was just disappointing. And the fact that I still couldn’t stand nesta up until chapter 50 in book that has 80 chapter says a lot. And yes I understand healing takes time and nesta was really messed up, but SJM has shown us before in a court of wings and ruin that she can write healing really well without making us hate the character or the process. So this just felt like a let down.
There were also multiple times throughout the book where I felt like SJM just pulled lines straight from a self help book and said “yep that’s sounds fine” and it just got annoying.
And WHERE WAS MOR!?!? There was NO Mor content in this book which was so upsetting.
The good parts: Gwyn and Emerie, the whole Valkyrie plot line, Azriel (of course), the house being sentient, the nesta break down scene, girl power.
The bad parts: everything above
