Scythe by Neal Shusterman

5.0

Oh my god, this book is incredible. I usually don't like reading YA books, especially dystopian ones, but this absolutely blew my mind. It's so original and clever, and it has an extremely believable, well-crafted world. And even though this world was meant to be a utopia, I could very clearly see past the facade, as intended.

Without spoiling too much, I will say this book is chilling to the core, and frightening in a way I didn't think possible. I got shivers whenever the main "villain" was in a scene, I sat on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what happens next, and I grew fond of many characters. I will say, though, that at the beginning, and until about the last quarter of the book, I found it very hard to like Citra and Rowan as main characters. I preferred side characters, like Faraday, to them.

(He's still my favourite.)

I honestly can say I didn't see a lot of the twists coming. I hate predictable books, and Scythe definitely wasn't. It's a very, very interesting concept on its own - and masterfully executed here.

I highly recommend this book!
