Ahhhhh!! If you’re in a giddily kick your feet in the air type of mood, then this is the book for you—especially the voice message exchanges that happen between Ella and Miles. Ella is musical artist going through a difficult divorce with the man who helped build her career but who has also been having an affair behind her back. Miles has similarly experienced betrayal but has the benefit of time since his separation and divorce occurred a year prior. Both are in need of healing and comfort, and they find it in each other, but it takes time and clear communication, so it takes them a minute to get there. The chemistry between the two is undeniable from their first meeting, but the way they sort of circle each other for a bit and then get to know one another makes their relationship feel real and meant to be.
Individually, each has their own issues, obviously. Ella has some issues she needs to work through—mainly successfully divorcing her toxic ex, but also working through her strained relationship with her parents. Ella’s relationship with her mother is highlighted throughout the novel, and we see her trying to make peace with the fact that her mother’s priorities lay in appearances. For Miles it’s opening up and letting others show up to support him for a change. If I could insert a gif with heart eyes kicking its feet to describe this book here, I would. The secondary characters are funny too and just a delight. Strongly recommend!
