Taylor Jekins Reid quickly became one of my favorite authors, and her lastest novel didn’t disappoint.
Immediately we are thrown into the life of Malibu, a once quiet fishing area which transforms into a trendy beach town durring the 80’s. The story follows Nina, Kit, Hud, and Jay as they live out one day which will define the rest of their lives and those around them: the day Malibu catches fire. All four of the characters are connected by blood as the children of famous singer Mick Riva (his name might sound familiar if you have read the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo). With the author weaving in his back story along with the plot progression, the readers develop a better understanding of the siblings lives, and how the close knit bond formed. It is a family drama, but one so tension filled that I kept obsessively reading. Reid has a talent for making her characters seem so real and fleshed out, to the point where I had to check on google that the events portrayed were fictional.
While Daisy Jones is probably my favorite of her best sellers, and the reason I didn’t rate this book five stars, it is definitely worth your time.
