I was intrigued by the book as the story follows a women mage who is the first to join the research institute, I was engrossed when the magic system reminded me of coding and I was enthralled when I read the plot twist. 
M.L. Wang was able to do an incredible feat of writing an in-depth fantasy storyline into one novel. 
I would say this book is quite dark
