A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

5.0

A Monster Calls is one of the most unexpected pleasures I have encountered in a long time. The writing was thoughtful and appropriate to both the voice of the child and that of the monster. I appreciated the use of illustrations not only to illuminate the sequence of the story, but also as they seeped into the pages of the next chapter much like the dreams that seeped into the protagonists waking hours. I recommend this book to anyone that has eyes and imagination.
