Beastly Bones by William Ritter
4.0

I enjoyed this one more than I did Jackaby - there was less set up, less world building, and a less predictable case. There were some interesting questions raised in regards to Jenny, and I can't wait to see where the third book goes with the investigation of her story.

I'm still not really a big fan of Jackaby as a character. He seems...too floaty and wishy washy, with his constant references to auras, to be taken seriously by the police and brought in as a consulting detective. In contrast, here we got to see Abigail coming into her own and using her knowledge to further the case rather than just wandering around after Jackaby taking occasional notes and generally not doing much of use.

Not gonna lie, though. Charlie remains my favourite character, and I was relieved by how big a role he played in this. And I may have squeed once or twice. On the whole, this was pretty damned enjoyable.
