Around the World in Eighty Days
by Jules Verne
In order to win a bet, Phileas Fogg and his trusty assistant Passepartout must circumnavigate the world in a mere 80 days. Adventure and obstacles follow as they travel on boats, trains, cars, sleds, and even an elephant through London, Paris, India, Hong Kong, Japan, San Francisco and New York to fulfill their challenge. For a novel written in 1873, I found this suprisingly accessible and readable. It moves quickly, there is a lot of action, and the characters are very likeable. There's even a bit of humor and romance thrown in. Who knew?
Great fun.
