The Game by Shane Scollins

4.0

This book was different. The paranormal aspect wasn't what I expected at all, so that was a surprise, but different and interesting. The whole think kept my attention and I enjoyed it overall.

The negative, to me, was what I've seen a few other times. I read books for the "game" aspect, and in this case, the "game" lasted all of about 25 pages. That pissed me off. If you are going to name a book "game" and all the description say it's about a "game" then I want more than 10% of the book to be about the game.

But I liked everything else about this book. I just wish it had been called something different, and just mentioned there would be a game involved, but not make it seem like the whole book. I know, by the end, where he tried to go with that, but still. This would have been a 5 star book for me, and probably one of my favorites if it was named differently and didn't act like the game of the maze was the main focus of the book, because it wasn't.

Even still, I really liked this book. I worried at first. I almost never look at reviews. The only time that I do are for books rated under 3.5 on GR, but this time I decided not to look and give it at shot anyways. I don't know what other people had against this book, I thought it was pretty action-y with good characters and a crazy paranormal twist.
