Parts of it were very effective and parts of it felt like my least favorite elements of Seanan McGuire's writing. (I do not like Seanan McGuire's writing.) I liked how the fantasy elements literalized generational trauma, but I could have done without the epilogue painstakingly explaining to the reader that the fantasy elements were literalizing generational truama.
