The Gulag Archipelago, Volume I by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

2.0

I think this is more of an important artifact than a book to be read. It is a very long, repetitive, catalogue of Stalin's horrors, but it is the ridiculousness and insanity of it all that comes across the strongest. Somehow reading all this dulls the senses, makes the whole thing seem less horrific. Whereas 1984 is still burned into my mind years later.

I gave up after Volume 1.
