The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison
2.5
slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: N/A
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

There is hardly any plot and not enough character study to justify it. Unnecessarily confusing naming conventions and fake words that are not explained or included in the glossary also makes things incredibly difficult to follow for no reason. It’s a book that uses a lot of big words and requires concentration, but not because it has anything particular to say. Contains elves and goblins but the plot would not be changed at all if it was about humans. I came in not knowing what to expect and I didn’t know cozy political slice of life books even existed before this, safe to say I do not enjoy them.
