I was thoroughly enjoying this until about two-thirds in. I felt the mystery was quite obvious from the start, which was fine, but it soon felt that it should also be obvious to the main character. I found it intensely frustrating when she wasn’t able to figure it out, even when it was nearly spelled out for her ( and despite how well she claims to know her twin sister ), and this resulted in some devastating consequences. I also found the final few chapters to resemble a little too closely the end of a Hollywood thriller.
However, I loved the themes, the pacing and the scope of the story, and it was beautifully written. I’m very much looking forward to whatever Charlotte McConaghy comes out with next.
